Abstract

Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart) Solms,) samples from Lake Victoria shore were analysed for heavy metal pollution using Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (EDXRF). The roots of the water hyacinth samples were collected from areas influenced by industrial and domestic sewage and little influenced area. Water hyacinth from industrial area and those from sewage discharge points had higher concentrations of heavy metals than that from the little disturbed area.
