Abstract
The edible mushroom Pleurotus pulmonarius was grown on pasteurized saw dust supplemented with either Crotalaria ochroleuca (N2- fixing legume) or with chicken manure. Inoculated, unsupplemented sawdust acted as control. Sawdust supplemented with C. ochroleuca biomass yielded the highest fresh weight of the mushroom with a biological efficiency (B.E) of 83%. Sawdust supplemented with chicken manure had a 67% B.E., while control gave the least harvest (B.E. = 32%). Reasons for the differences are discussed.
