Abstract
The total surface area, pore size distribution, metal surface area, particle size and topography of coked Pt/γ-12O3 catalyst samples used in in part 1 of this series were measured and compared with those of a fresh catalyst. No significant changes in total surface areas of the coked catalyst was observed despite a high coke content in some samples. This is interpreted in terms of partial narrowing of mesopores that was confirmed by pore size distributions observations of high temperature coked samples. The platinum metal surface area of high temperature coked catalysts decreased with increase in temperature and this was confirmed by Transmission Electron Microscopy which revealed an increase in metal particles size with increase in temperature. The topographies of fresh and coked samples diffed but no quantitative comparisons could be made.
