Abstract

We derive from first principles analytical expressions that give each of the following meteorological parameters in terms of (air) temperature: wind speed, relative humidity, rainfall, absolute humidity, vapour pressure and dew point. The practical validity of these expressions has been clearly ascertained using past meteorological records. Since air temperature is one of the easiest meteorological parameters to predict (Njau, 1991, 1994), the derived analytical expressions are simple and convenient tools by means of which wind speed, absolute humidity, rainfall, relative humidity, vapour pressure and dew point may be predicted. In this paper we demonstrate and explain how the derived analytical expressions may be used to predict variations in rainfall, wind speed, dew point, humidity and vapour pressure easily and without the need to employ large computer power as in the case of current climate models. Our predictions show approximate annual rainfall values for the year 1995 at different stations in Tanzania. Typical examples are given below, with the bracketed number giving the expected 1995 at different station: Bukoba (1650), Tanga (1000), Arusha (630), Dar es Salaam (1080) and Moshi (480). Rainfall values for other Tanzanian stations as well as corresponding values for other meteorological parameters can similarly be worked to using the analytical expressions mentioned above. For comparison purposes, the other proven climatic/weather prediction method which was established earlier by the author is summarized in the appendix.
