ZAMANI AIMS AND SCOPE
Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies welcomes and aims to publish original articles, review essays and book reviews on Africa, its history, its respective countries, people, culture and institutions. The Journal is intended for academics, students and individuals interested in African history and affairs from across the world. Zamani journal also promotes African perspectives and thinking on African history. It is a pan-continental journal on history that is based in an African institution, the University of Dar es Salaam.
Zamani journal builds on what was known as "the Dar es Salaam School of History" during the 1960s, 1970s to 1990s. By then, research material on African and Tanzanian history was published in series of books and pamphlets for scholarly conversations especially on African agency, initiatives and change. The publications reflected a changing School of History, from liberal colonial historiography to liberal and radical historiographies. In 1992, the series were changed into a journal that published historical research from Tanzania alone: the name of the journal was Tanzania Zamani. After publishing 14 volumes, the Tanzania Zamani changed its name and scope to reclaim it past glory when it inspired pan-African historical thought and writing. In May 2023, the journal was renamed by the Senate of the University of Dar es Salaam as Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies.
The journal encourages contributors to observe the scope before submitting their research and to adhere to instructions to authors that can be downloaded in: Pluto Journals
