Abstract
Researchers often find it challenging to identify the appropriate Multi-Criteria Decision Making Methods (MCDM) to employ in various research areas that involve prioritising conflicting alternatives or criteria. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA technique to determine the most frequently and commonly employed MCDM methods in assessing organisational maturity across its functional areas. A total of 120 articles were identified for review, and a bibliometric analysis was conducted to map the relationships within the identified articles using VOSviewer 1.6.20 software. Moreover, frequent content analysis was performed to determine the most frequently employed MCDM methods in assessing an organisation’s maturity across its functional areas. Eight (8) MCDM methods were identified as the most commonly used methods in assessing an organisation’s maturity, with AHP being the most frequently used, which had appeared 17 times. To confirm the results obtained from the systematic literature review, a survey was conducted on the eight frequently employed MCDM methods identified in the literature. Twenty (20) experts were provided with a questionnaire to rank the identified MCDM methods to be used in assessing an organisation’s maturity across its functional areas. The results indicated that Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) emerged as the highly ranked MCDM method, scoring a weight of 0.17, followed by FUZZY-AHP with a weight of 0.16. Therefore, the appropriate MCDM method for maturity assessment within an organisation’s functional areas is the AHP. Further, studies should also be conducted to propose the proper MCDM method to be employed in other research subject areas involving the prioritisation of alternatives or criteria other than maturity assessment.
