Abstract

A study was carried out to establish the effect of substrate loading rate on the production of biogas from water hyacinth. The experiments revealed that the maximum methane yield in a batch process was 0.166 normal litre (NLVg Of volatile solids (VS) added at substrate concentration of 25 g dry mass'litre after five days of incubation. The maximum methane yield in a semi-batch process was 0.153 NWg VS added at 1.30 g VS'litre day and retention time Of 15 days.
